More often than not, when a band records a demo, it is used specifically for two things:  to shop to record labels to gauge any interest they would have in putting out your record, or to use in the studio to give the producer an idea of what the songs you are going to record sound like prior to even getting into the studio.

The Dopamines’ demo disc seems to be an anomaly in more than a few ways. First of all, the band came up with packaging for this release (albeit it was done in a DIY fashion with a CD burner and a Xerox machine) and gave it away to not just labels, but to anyone who would give them an address and for free at shows they play.  Clearly influenced by bands like the Copyrights and Delay, musically speaking and as far as the style in which the vocals are delivered.  Songs like “Cupidity” and “Fun Tags” demonstrates Jon Lewis’ guitar slinging skills which were also showcased in old local stars Black Tie Bombers. The band’s drummer Matt Hemingway (also from the Black Tie Bombers) brings his unique drumming to add to the Dopamine’s power trio sound. The raw style of the recording helps to create the atmosphere of where you will most likely see a Dopamine’s show: in the basement of bassist Jon Weiner’s house on Glendora Avenue in Clifton.  The grit and raw perfection of this recording catches the Dopamines at a moment in time where they were playing just for themselves (as no one had heard them yet) and it shows. The Dopamines play 100% from the gut with unmatched passion.

Watch out Delay! These Cincinnati guys have your number and are closing in!

The Dopamines just recently recorded their full length in Nashville with Teen Idols drummer Matt Yonkers and they WILL be released by an independent label in the near future. Watch out for these guys.
