The death omen known as Gabriel’s Hounds was formed in the summer of
2005. The band was started with the intention of playing and creating
music with no limitations. There was no one genre the band would stick
too. Unlike most bands today, Gabriel’s Hounds wanted to be a band that
covered every spectrum of rock and metal out there. They wanted to be
able to create albums that contained rock, acoustic, metal, death
metal, black metal, thrash, and everywhere in between.
So, founding members Eric Reed (drums) and Ryan Ashbrook
(guitar/keyboards) would set out to find the right members for the job.
For a second guitar and vocals they turned to Eric’s cousin, Kenny
Gilbert. With having very little knowledge of how to play guitar at
all, Ken would learn the instrument extremely fast. He became one of
the key creators in the band within the first 3 weeks. For bass, the
band turned to Ryan’s girlfriend Jamie Earnst. A former band mate of
Eric’s as well, she too with little knowledge learned her instrument
quickly and became a great addition to the band.
Fast foreword to December of 2007 and Gabriel’s Hounds has been through
a lot. They would play countless shows and develop a great following;
but they would also see the joining and departure of four different
vocalists. Whether leaving for personal reasons; being let go for
business reasons; or just not wanting to do the job anymore, the four
original members were in a bind. So, while looking for yet another
vocalist Eric and Kenny would create a side project band called The
Last Judgement with Dave Voll and Brandon Cooper. There first show with
the band would be opening for Roadrunner Records artist Daath. After
two shows were played with the band though, guitarist/vocalist Dave
Voll would end up leaving the band to join local metalcore band Rose
Funeral. This would leave The Last Judgement without a singer or second
guitarist. But the same day Dave would quit, Gabriel’s Hounds would
take a band vote and fire Ryan for business reasons.
This left both bands in a bind for a second guitarist and vocalist.
After little persuasion however, Eric would talk Brandon into joining
Gabriel’s Hounds. With him would come all the material The Last
Judgement created in the short time together. He would also bring his
friend, John Knosp, for a tryout 2 weeks after joining. After jamming
one song with him they knew he was the right person to lead the band.
Bringing a mix of both screams/growls and clean vocals, John would
bring the band to a level never achieved before. He would join the band
permanently the following week. This brings us to the present, where
the band is playing shows and gaining a bigger fan base with every show
they play.
